My name is Hodo. I built SL Gateway because I got tired of the WhatsApp shuffle.

Every time someone asked me about Somaliland — Where should I stay in Berbera? Who’s a reliable logistics company? Is there a real estate agent I can trust?

The answer was always the same: “Let me ask around.”

For a country with a growing economy, an expanding port, and a business community full of potential — that wasn’t good enough.

I’m part of the Somaliland diaspora, based in Canada. For years I’ve watched Somaliland grow from a distance while staying deeply connected to what’s happening on the ground. I’ve seen the investment interest rise. I’ve watched the Berbera corridor gain global attention.

But I’ve also seen how hard it is to find clear, reliable, trustworthy information.

So I built what was missing.

I have a professional background in HR — which means I understand how organizations operate and how institutional trust is actually built. That’s not incidental to what SL Gateway does. It’s the foundation of it. And I have genuine skin in the game in Somaliland — not just emotionally, but materially. This is not a passion project built from a distance. It’s infrastructure built by someone with real stakes in the country’s future.
